Dr. Alison Gardiner-Shires is an Associate Professor and Athletic Trainer at West Chester University in West Chester, PA. As a passionate educator, she has taught undergraduate and graduate students in accredited athletic training programs since 2003. Dr. Shires has experience working with collegiate and high school athletes and the general population via a sports medicine clinic. She received her bachelor’s degree from Salisbury University (Maryland) in 2000, master’s degree in athletic training from California University of Pennsylvania in 2003, and her PhD from the University of South Carolina in 2006. Dr. Shires was first exposed to IASTM in 2009 and has incorporated it into her daily clinical practice since then. She was an instructor for Graston Technique from 2011-2013, and in 2012 supervised a research study utilizing IASTM. Her interests include the treatment of lower-extremity overuse conditions, and incorporating dynamic movement and functional activity with treatment.
